Jesus Teaches with Understanding

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Jesus' life resembled his calling. He was the Son of Man; yet, he was the Son of God (11:27). He healed the sick! He raised the dead! He solved problems! He rebuked the legalists! He challenged societal beliefs! He perceived the thoughts of every man! In the same breath, he gave understanding (11:28).  Jesus spoke of his father and his call every chance he was given. He opposed the proud but showed grace to those who listened, sought after, and followed him. He spoke the words, "Come," with the perceived understanding that life is complicated for humanity, and because of this, a person could easily conclude that faith wasn't for him. Jesus said, "Come" to those who had been crushed by life and needed rescuing. He said, "Come" to those who had been discouraged and confused by injustice. "Come" to those who were debilitated and suffering physically, emotionally, and mentally. Bottom line is, Jesus understood that without faith in his oneness with the Father, his works on earth, his suffering, and his resurrection, it would be impossible to satisfy God. He understands you.

You, cannot change yourself. We were created in God's image; therefore, He changes us according to His likeness, when we say yes to His son. Complete change comes through the essence of knowing  Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. He understood that he was the only one who could change the trajectory of a person's life.

A "yoke" symbolizes bondage. In contrast, "rest" represents freedom and peace. Keep in mind Jesus doesn't cheer you on by saying, you can do it! He is saying; trust me first. You are victorious if you trust me because I am the one who resurrects and gives life to all who will receive it. So, "Come" unto me, and I will provide you with the so-needed “rest” your heart desires. He understood that life would present crushing and also brokenness, a complete denial of any rights we think we deserve. He gives life on earth as well as eternal life.  In taking his yoke upon you, you will understand his suffering during your suffering. In coming to him, you could stand the process if you allow him to meet you where you are. He says to the unbeliever, trust me, and you will forever find life. He says to the believer; I'm here at your beckon call.

If you have not chosen to trust Jesus today as the Son of Man, as well as the Son of God, he is waiting for you. If you have trusted him as fully Man and God, he cares for you and challenges you to stay on track. The cross is where we must continue to lay down our lives, but because of the resurrection, we must move forward in knowing, He is alive and intercedes on our behalf! His yoke is easy. It doesn't take much. His burden is light because the perfect One has paid it all!

Isn't it good to trust in the only one who can offer redemption? Isn't it good to know that you are safe in Jesus' everlasting arms? Salvation is light! Trust Jesus today! Move forward in Christ, knowing that his grace is enough for you yesterday, today, tomorrow, and forever! Amen.
